I AM MARK

THE GREATEST STORY EVER TOLD ABOUT THE GREATEST PERSON WHO EVER LIVED!

Imagine being among Jesus' first followers and hearing his extraordinary story first hand. Well, now's your chance - with this stunning word-for-word dramatisation of Mark's Gospel by Actor and Storyteller, Stefan Smart.

ONE MAN - ONE CHAIR - ONE INCREDIBLE TRUE STORY

Stefan is coming to Saxlingham Nethergate Village Hall on July 8 and you’re invited.

The I AM MARK performance begins at 7pm and refreshments will be available. Tickets are £5.

Box Office: 01603 396 959

“Marvel at the extraordinary richness of this ancient form of storytelling which is as relevant and revolutionary today as it ever was. Bring your friends and family!”

"Sometimes it takes a living voice, like this one, to make you hear the Bible for the first time."

Archbishop Rowan Williams

"Respect! Stefan's performance was very strong."

Remembering Loved Ones Service

Remembering Loved Ones Service

Service for Remembering Loved Ones

15th November 2020, 6.30pm via Zoom (open to join from 6pm)

Every year close to All Souls’ Day, the church commemorates our loved ones who have died.  This year's ‘Remembering Loved Ones’ Service will take place on Sunday, 15th November, at 6.30pm.  Because of current restrictions the service cannot be held in the church building but will instead be held via ‘Zoom’.

In this service we give thanks for the lives of those who have meant so much to us and pray for all who mourn.  Names of loved ones who have died will be read out during the prayers and candles will be lit in remembrance and thanksgiving.  The names will include all those whose funerals took place in this group of parishes from November 2018 to November 2020.

If you have the facility to do so and would like to join us, please reply by email to geoffmerchant@btinternet.com and you will be sent a link for the service.

If you would like us to include the names of your loved ones departed (ie prior to Nov 2018) please contact Dawn (01508 498924) or Austin (01508 470901) and we will add them to the list.

Community Food Table

Community Food Table

A Community Food Table will be held at Stratton St Mary Church on Saturday, October 17th, 10.45-12.30.

Food is provided by Fairshare, a national network of charitable food redistributors. They take good quality surplus food from across the food industry (supermarkets, manufacturers, producers) and get it to almost 11,000 frontline charities and community groups. The food that is redistributed is nutritious, in-date and good to eat. It is quality food that is simply surplus to the requirements of the food industry.

Anyone can attend, no vouchers are required. There is no charge. Food is simply set up on tables and people can take what they want.

‘Customers’ will be required to socially distance and wear a mask. They are advised to bring bags and egg boxes.

We are hoping to run an event on the third Saturday of every month so the next Food Table will be held on Saturday, November 21st.

We've all heard that Sunday services and other mid-week gatherings are to stop until further notice - posing a new and exciting challenge for us as we seek to 'do differently' in being Church in Tas Valley during theses uncertain times.

Despite the inconveniences and in some cases, very real difficulties that we may encounter, we can continue to look to God for wisdom, help and comfort.  This is our moment to shine.  Here is opportunity to deepen our prayer life, to reach out in practical ways to neighbours and friends.  To show support and strengthen community in our villages.  We can all pick up the phone or write a card offering words of encouragement.  Many of us can offer help in a variety of practical ways.

Meanwhile, keep safe and well - watch this space and elswhere for further updates and developments.

With love and prayers

Meanwhile, keep safe and well - watch this space and elswhere for further updates and developments.

With love and prayers

Good Friday Service

Good Friday.

The day that Jesus was crucified. You might think it strange to call it ‘Good’ Friday - what could be good about such a sad day? Jesus took the blame for all the bad things that people have done. And because Jesus did that as He died there on the cross for us, we can be forgiven. And that’s good - so good!

Come and join us as we reflect on the cross.

Shoebox Packing Event

Shoebox Packing Event

It is time once again to launch the annual Shoe Box Appeal for children in need in Central and Eastern Europe.

Operation Christmas Child is the world’s largest children’s Christmas project, run by the relief and development organisation Samaritan’s purse. The project enables individuals, families, schools, churches, businesses and community organisations to fill ordinary shoe boxes with small toys, school supplies, hats and scarves and other gifts for needy children. With the help of churches and thousands of volunteers, these gift-filled shoe boxes are collected, processed and delivered to children in hospitals, orphanages, refugee camps, homeless shelters and impoverished areas around the globe, regardless of nationality, political background or religious beliefs.

The information leaflets and posters are in churches and the final date for handing in the boxes will be on Remembrance Sunday November 13th. Pick up a leaflet to help you fill your own box or come to a packing party like the one in Tasburgh.
Last year we sent 156 boxes from the Benefice and with your help we hope to match this or achieve an even better
amount this year.

There will be a community packing event on November 5th in the church room, st marys, tasburgh. Please come with your children to join in box-wrapping and packing. Filling a shoebox is a simple and fun thing to do, but it is a great practical way of showing love with children who have very little in material terms. Just come along!

Any of the following items would be gratefully appreciated to be used in the making of Christmas boxes for Operation Christmas Child: They can be brought to the church room on the day or call jane on 470 692 in advance.

Wrapping Paper, Empty shoe boxes, Cuddly toys (new, unused, not hand made), Toothbrushes, Toothpaste, Bar of Wrapped Soap, Flannel, Hairbrush/comb, Pads of paper, Picture books, Pencils, Pens, Crayons, Pencil Sharpener, Erasers, Hats, Gloves, Scarfs,
Small ball, Toy cars/ trucks (but not military vehicles), Passenger plane,
Children’s jewellery (nothing sharp), Hair accessories, New Dolls, Skipping ropes, Christmas cards.

Thanks so much for your kindness

Calling all walkers, cyclists and car drivers! You are invited to join in a fun day out in Norfolk stopping off at as many Churches and Chapels as you can whilst raising some much needed funds for a Church or Chapel of your choice.

On Saturday 10th September it is the annual Norfolk Churches Trust fundraising day. Over 600 Churches and Chapels will be open on the day from 9am to 5pm. You can be sponsored for each building you visit or a set amount for the day. Half the money raised goes to The Norfolk Churches Trust and the other half to a Church or Chapel of your choice.

In Tasburgh in the past this event has been one of our major fundraising events for the year but it recent years the number of cyclists and walkers has dwindled. Please come and take part if you can to help raise some funds to help preserve our beautiful Church building and other beautiful churches and chapels in our county. For more information and a sponsor form contact Vivienne Taylor on 01508 471790."

An Hour of Prayer

An Hour of Prayer

Part of our week of prayer.

As the Archbishops of Canterbury and York have written, "That is why we are…. inviting you …. to join us in a week of prayer for the evangelisation ofour nation. In the week leading up to Pentecost (May 8th - 15th, 2016) we long to see a great wave of prayer across our land, throughout the Church of England and many other Churches.

Our hope is
for all Christians to deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ
for all of us to have confidence to share the Gospel
for all to respond to the call of Jesus Christ to follow Him as disciples, to live out the Gospel and to seek God’s Kingdom from day to day

At the heart of our prayers will be the words that Jesus Christ himself taught us - ‘Thy kingdom come, thy will be done.’ It is impossible to overstate the life-transforming power of the Lord’s Prayer. It is a prayer that is reassuring enough to be on the lips of the dying and yet dangerous enough to be banned in cinemas. It is famous enough to be spoken each day by billions in hundreds of languages and yet intimate enough to draw us ever closer into friendship with Jesus Christ. It is simple enough to be memorised by small children and yet profound enough to sustain a whole lifetime of prayer. When we pray it with sincerity and with joy, there is no imagining the new ways in which God can use us to his glory."

Special Me Group

Special Me Group

The SMG meets on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of Every month from 1.30-3.30pm at Newton Flotman Primary School. The group welcomes all who would normally find it dificult to access a church group because of learning or behavioural difficulty, a hearing or visual impairment or a physical disability. Family, friends and carers are also welcome to join in with the sessions or we provide an area to sit and relax while the session takes place.

The sessions provide a fun way to learn about Jesus and God. At each session there is bible study and various activities. These include drama, craft, singing, puppets and worship. Occasionally we have a social time or outing together. Some activities are in small groups; some are for everyone together. You decide what activities you would like to join in with. The SMG works in partnership with Prospects to make sure that the sessions are fun and accessible for all. Prospects are a national Christian Charity for adults with learning difficulties. We use signing, large visual displays and easy read bibles to make the sessions as accessible as possible for all. Ofcourse at the end of each session there is the opportunity to chat and join together for refreshments

Marriage Preparation

Marriage Preparation

This is a five session course for couples getting married in 2015.  Marriage Preparation is not about us saying we are 'experts' (we are not!) but about you investing time in building a stronger foundation for a lifetime commitment in marriage.  Sessions cover:

expressing feelings and learning to listen

the importance of commitment

resolving conflict

keeping love alive

talking about goals and values

The course is presented on dvds which allow for breaks when participating couples are given time to discuss various subjects on their own.  It also gives you the opportunity to find out about the marriage service itself and ask questions about planning your church ceremony.  The feedback we've had in the past indicates that couples find these evenings both helpful and enjoyable.

There is no charge for the course, which includes light refreshments.

Christianity Explored

We start on Saturday 5th April at 4pm and invite you to join us – so come along if you would like to; the more the merrier! The Christianity Explored course gives you time and space to think through who Jesus is and why it matters. Each week we watch an excellent DVD & listen to a short talk. There’s always time for any questions too. The course is based around Mark’s Gospel. Mark’s Gospel splits roughly into two halves, and answers three important questions: Chapters 1-8: “Who is Jesus?” Chapters 9-16: “Why did Jesus come? And how should we respond?” As we approach Easter once again, this is a great time to start a course like this.

Do come if you can - IT'S FREE!

Film Night

Film Night

Presented by Louie Giglio

The heavens are telling glory of God, and their expanse the work of His hands. Night after night they remind us of just how small we are, and how huge God is. Looking out into the far reaches of the universe, we find a seemingly vast expanse of mystery and wonder, intricately fashioned by a God of unfathomable size and power. Just a glimpse of one of the billions of visible galaxies He has formed resizes us, shrinking us, and the world we call home, to seeming insignificance in an instant. But as tiny as we may seem, the God who knows every star by name also knows yours, and mine. And in the most stunning rescue imaginable, God sent His son to this spinning planet we call home – the Creator reconnecting us to Himself with life that never ends. Embark on an image-rich journey through the cosmos and peer into God’s universe to discover the amazing magnitude of His greatness & grace.

You do not want to miss this amazing film. Running time is 43 minutes. Tea, Coffee and any questions after. Admission is FREE.

The Bishop of Thetford’s Work Party

The Bishop of Thetford’s Work Party

Could you come and join Bishop Alan in a day working with the Companions to help tidy up the grounds as well as doing some indoor work? No special expertise required, but a willingness to lend a helping hand as the community gets established at Ditchingham.

You’ll need to bring a packed lunch, but drinks and cake will be provided.

You’ll need to accept that you’ll probably get dirty working, and wear some appropriate clothes and footwear (with closed toes – no sandals).

If you have some gardening tools to bring along that could be helpful.

A petrol strimmer or two would help with the outdoors work.

It would be great to have some idea of who’s coming, so email or phone Graham Cossey beforehand if you can, using the contact details provided.

But do just turn up on the day if it’s a last minute decision!

“Emmaus Communities offer homeless people a home, work and the chance to rebuild their lives in a supportive environment.”
